AIPIA：Thumbs Up for first AIPIA event!

Delegates to the first AIPIA Congress in Tokyo gave the event a very positive rating and confirmed it as an excellent 'first step' for the Active & Intelligent Packaging Industry Association.
"This is the right conversation at the right time and on the right topics," said one senior delegate.
"Almost every presentation was relevant to our market development strategies," said another, "And those that weren't gave us plenty of food for thought."
"The AIPIA Congress enabled us to make contact with key people at the highest level of decision making, which could lead to a major and potentially huge development in our business."
The first day of presentations, hosted and organised by the Japan Packaging Institute, was devoted to an insight into the packaging scene in Japan and what is driving packaging development in Asian markets generally. This was followed by a tour of a supermarket and major retail outlet to discover how things look on 'shelf' and what consumers in Japan expect from their packaging.
But the real 'meat' of the Congress came on day two with a full day of presentations from leading A&IP experts at the showground during Tokyo Pack 2012. Topics covered the introduction of low cost electronic functionality into packaging; how to use RFID in the supply chain; time-temperature indicators; printed intelligence technologies; NFC and consumer acceptance of contactless cards and smartphones; interactive packaging for marketing; innovative sustainable materials; and security features for high value goods.
The day concluded with a 'live' demonstration by Smartrac of the potential for RFID/ NFC in both mobile commerce and for anti-counterfeiting and security measures. To say this 'demo' created a lot of interest would be the understatement of the event!
Finally, day three was taken up with a tour of the Tokyo Pack exhibition to see actual examples of A&IP on more than 30 stands.
